Travel to Tampere

Tampere is easily accessible by air, bus or train from Helsinki and is located only 180 kilometres northwest from Helsinki, the capital of Finland.

By air

Tampere has direct flight connections with Stockholm, Helsinki, Riga, Budapest and Bremen.

The frequent daily flights from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL) to Tampere-Pirkkala Airport (TMP) take only 30 minutes. Please note that for example the budget airline Ryanair flies to Tampere-Pirkkala Airport from several European cities.

There is a direct bus connection between Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL) and Tampere, which takes 2h (see http://www.expressbus.fi). Alternatively, you can take a train from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL) to Tampere. The travel also takes approx. 1.5h-2h.

Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is about 15 km from the city centre. The Airport Taxi can be ordered at the airport as well as at the hotel reception. There are usually also regular taxis waiting for passengers at the airport. The Taxi between central Tampere and the airport takes approx. 20 minutes and costs approx. €30 to €40. There are taxi ranks outside both terminals.

Public Transport Bus number 1A operates between the airport and Tampere. Please check the timetable before, as a frequency of this service on weekends is not often. Read more...

By train

If you arrive at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport but plan to take the train to Tampere, now it is possible to take a train from the airport (One change). Trains depart hourly (except for night time). The travel time by train is about 1:30 to 2 hours. The ticket will cost you between 10 to 40 EUR, one way. We recommend you to buy a ticket either to a Pendolino or InterCity train. Further information please visit http://www.vr.fi. You have the option to select seat preference: for example a PC seat in an open or working compartment.

By Bus

If you do not stay in Helsinki, perhaps easier and faster way than to take the train is to hop on the express bus. It will leave to Tampere straight from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. It would cost you 27 EUR one way. Buses depart every 1-2 hours and the travel time is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. You might need to change the bus at Keimolanportti. The driver will lift your luggage to the other bus, and you just need to remember to walk to that bus next by. You can ask additional information from the driver.
